We are in the process of planning a new, user-based news site just for the 517! We’re keeping the domain name and the most of the details under wraps until our launch here in a couple of weeks (DV).
There are several things that make this website different than normal news-based sites such as State Journal and this is your sneak preview of what’s coming!
Firstly, as was just mentioned, this site will have a user-generated part of the site that works similar to the site SEOmoz.com (a site for everything SEO). The site will have a normal writer base and will have a part that is open for Lansing-ites to write their own stuff. Periodically, especially good, helpful, or news-worthy content submitted by our users will be “promoted” to an official standing.
Secondly, this isn’t going to be a traditional news site that reports only the happenings of the city in a way that’s depressing and virtually valueless. The stories and articles on our website will mostly be geared towards things that add value to our community and report on ways that we as a community can influence the city for good even more.
Thirdly, as was just stated, the site won’t be all news. We are already arranging for articles on health and fitness, shopping / couponing, and other things that we feel will add value to our city.
And that’s about all we can leak at the moment! Stay tuned to these posts for our Twitter, Facebook, and of course, the official launch of this new Lansing site!
